ABOUT - BIO

Dr. Lami Perera is a transdisciplinary academic with expertise in both Information Technology and Social Science. With over 22 years of experience in the IT industry and higher education sector, he is a strong education professional who holds a PhD from UTS, Australia. Dr. Perera is also a Senior Member and a certified professional of the Australian Computer Society, and has contributed to numerous international research journals and conferences across a range of different fields. Creating a positive academic environment that fosters student engagement and maintains high standards of performance has been a key focus of him. Moreover, he has supervised students, guiding them through their academic journeys. He is currently accredited to supervise at the level of principal supervisor. Dr Lami Perera is working on successful grant applications further highlights his proficiency in research-related endeavours.


As an active researcher, Dr. Perera focuses on a variety of topics, including information systems and Information practices research (on how humans need, seek, find, organise and use information both online and everyday life), human learning, human information behaviour, and local and global information-based interactions. He is particularly interested in how information is generated and flows between people, organizations, and sites, as well as the ways in which humans need, seek, find, organize, and use information, both online and in everyday life. He has contributed significantly to the conceptualization of "site" in cities and how people create a sense of place. He has also developed a research interest in non-western information practice research. Dr. Perera uses qualitative and ethnographic approaches in his research, including digital ethnography, and is an advocate for insider/outsider research.

 

Dr Perera also has developed new process model for publishing called global review, Negative Citation index using disruptive technologies. He is one of the founding members of new blockchain process model for Superannuation fraud detection system in Australia. Dr. Perera's research reflects a broad sociological as well as technological approach. He is bringing together the information practice theoretical approach with concepts related to place, globalization, and capital too. He is actively working on decolonization of ICT curriculum and contribute to the schools Technology and Pedagogy research cluster.  He is also the first academic to justify Karmic capital/Karmic capitalism in Modern Buddhist context through non-western information practice research. He is also an inaugural member of the Leisure Informatics Society and founder of Cultural Information Science. He has gained extensive experience in communicating research outcomes to both experts and lay audiences, and his publications appear in Q1 academic journals. 



Prior to his academic career, Dr. Perera held various IT positions, including Systems Engineer, Analyst Programmer, Senior BI Analyst, Senior Data Analyst, and Real Time Manager. He has worked as an IT Consultant on large government and private sector projects, and has demonstrated his exceptional abilities to deliver high-quality education in business, IT, and research. Dr. Perera has coordinated courses, prepared and delivered lectures and tutorials, and mentored undergraduate and postgraduate courses, enrolling over 700 students across various campuses. He has  provided exceptional education in the fields of business, IT, and research throughout his Academic career. His commitment to delivering high-quality learning experiences has earned recognition and awards. Dr Perera possess a wealth of experience in enhancing curriculum, developing course content, and designing effective assessments to facilitate continuous improvement. He has successfully delivered engaging lectures and tutorials. Additionally, He has assessed student work and provided valuable feedback for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. overall, He has contributed to the maintenance of a positive academic environment that is conducive to high levels of engagement and standards of performance in learning and teaching. Not only, he has gained experience in continuous improvement of the curriculum/content development, course profiles, and assessments, but he has also received various awards for his outstanding learning experiences for students.
